In 2014, James Koshiba joined Hauʻoli Mau Loa Foundation’s Board of Directors as the first non-founding board member. Over the past 10+ years, James has provided steady and focused leadership through a number of Foundation milestones, including board and staff transitions, program expansions and welcoming new partners, and a significant commitment to stewarding the Foundation’s investments in ways that are aligned with our mission and values.
James will complete his board service with the Foundation on May 31, 2025. In reflecting on his more than 10 years of service to the Foundation, James shared these thoughts:
“It’s been a gift and a privilege to serve at Hauʻoli Mau Loa Foundation. Having spent most of my career as a nonprofit executive and grant-seeker, I knew how rare it was to find a funder that empathized with the challenges of nonprofit management and that truly sought to support and partner. I found that I was joining a team deeply committed to building trust and relationships with grantees – a team that was already practicing “trust-based philanthropy,” long before the term had been popularized. I’m so grateful to have been a part of that team for the past decade.”
As we prepare for the completion of James’s board service, we are excited to welcome Lauren Nahme as our newest board member, starting June 1, 2025.
Lauren brings a wealth of experience in finance, administration, and organizational strategy with a deep commitment to supporting our communities. She currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, where she leads special projects supporting the implementation of their strategic plan. Prior to that, she was the team lead for the Maui Recovery Effort, providing administration for the Maui Strong Fund and related collaborations.
Throughout her career, Lauren has held senior leadership positions at Kamehameha Schools, Hawaiʻi State Federal Credit Union, and other financial institutions and organizations across the state. Beyond her professional work, she actively gives back, serving with organizations like the Institute for Human Services, The Pantry, and Dynamic Community Solutions. She also serves on the boards of Chaminade University, Pacxa, and Tradewind Group.
Lauren and her husband Scott call Oʻahu home. They have three adult children, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and two beloved dogs.
