Partner

Hui O Waʻa Kaulua (HOWK) formed in 1975 in Lahaina with the building of a 43-foot long waʻa kaulua peleleu, Moʻolele. In 2014, Moʻokiha o Piʻilani was born, a 62-foot-long deep sea voyaging canoe. Both waʻa are named in honor of famous moʻo of Lahaina that continue to guide the organization forward into the future. In partnership with other groups, Hui O Waʻa Kaulua is committed to developing and conducting model educational programs using voyaging to excite and challenge students and their communities to learn about, respect, and care for the natural and social environment. The organization’s vision is to have a healthy, productive, safe Hawaiʻi and planet earth. Through partnerships, HOWK offers various voyaging educational programs. The canoe is a foundation for learning aloha, pilina, and mālama as it relates to the health of our environment, each other, and connection to our kupuna.
