Hawaiʻi Land Trust (HILT)

Partner

Hawaiian Islands Land Trust (HILT) is the state of Hawai‘i’s only local, statewide land trust, and the first to be nationally accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. Established in 2011 through the merger of four separate island land trusts, HILT’s mission is to protect and steward the lands that sustain Hawai‘i and to perpetuate Hawaiian values by connecting people to ‘āina. HILT has protected over 22,500 acres across Hawai‘i, through eight community preserves owned and stewarded by HILT and 52 conservation easements protecting agricultural, ecological, and cultural resources on private lands. Vital to HILT’s work is the connection of community to place. The organization operates a variety of programs in which residents, visitors, and students (grades pre-K through post-secondary) engage in ‘āina-based educational opportunities and learn about conservation, sustainability, native ecosystems, and mālama ‘āina.
